Job summary

Targa Resources is seeking a technician to review and monitor plant operations to optimize quality and production that meet data specs. The role requires troubleshooting mechanical equipment such as natural gas engines, compressors, and control systems.

Responsibilities include operating plant and pipeline equipment, monitoring conditions, and ensuring safe work practices with PPE adherence. Some weekend/holiday work may be required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Interpersonal communication skills are required to interface with teams, personnel, and vendors.
  • Strong work ethic with ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.

Responsibilities

  • Operate natural gas plant and pipeline equipment including treating plants, compressors, dehydrators, and valves.
  • Adjust controls to keep equipment in prescribed operating ranges and monitor conditions.
  • Visually inspect equipment and perform lubrication or minor repairs as needed.
  • Monitor plant and pipeline operations and respond to emergencies or upset conditions.
  • Ensure safe work practices and PPE compliance for employees and the public.
  • Read and record operating data (pressures, temperatures, hours, fuel, water levels).

Job description

Position Summary

Review and monitor plant operation/processes for optimizing quality and production of products meeting required data specifications. The responsibility of the technician is to work safely, have good trouble shooting skills on mechanical equipment (natural gas internal combustion engines, natural gas compressors, electrical and pneumatic controls, pumps, and control equipment).

Job Functions and Key Responsibilities

Assists with the operating of natural gas plant and pipeline equipment including but not limited to treating plants, reciprocating natural gas compressors, dehydrators, fluid separation equipment, valves, gas measurement equipment, etc.

Operating the plant equipment and system may include, but is not limited to:

  • Adjusting controls to operate equipment in the recommended or prescribed operating ranges.
  • Visually inspecting equipment and controls at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication.
  • Operating valves
  • Monitor Plant and Pipeline Operations and respond appropriately to emergency or upset conditions.
  • Implements safe work practices and participates in proactive safety culture while ensuring safety for the employee, the public, and the environment at all times.
  • Assists with monitoring of gas gathering system through SCADA and notifies plant supervisor of situations that could affect gas deliveries.
  • Reads, monitors, and records various operating conditions such as pressures, temperatures, hours of operation, fuel consumed, water levels, etc.
Minimum Essential Qualifications
  • Minimum High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license to include a safe driving record satisfactory to the company.
  • Interpersonal communication skills are required in order to interface with all affected teams, personnel, and vendors.
  • Strong work ethic with demonstrated ability to effectively work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work 12-hour rotating (day/night) shifts and will require some weekends and holidays to be worked.
  • Solid computer skills to include Microsoft Office Software.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, with the ability to respond to call outs as needed to fulfill business objective and the ability to work shifts for plant or field conditions.
  • Follow and adhere to all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines (ex: eye protection, footwear, Nomex).
  • This position works around high concentration of H2S.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 year Vocational training pertaining to oil and gas industry.
  • 2 years’ Oil & Gas Industry experience, Midstream, Gas Plant Operations.
  • Knowledge of gas and liquid measurement.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull at least a minimum of 50lbs.
  • Ability to work in changing climate conditions.
  • Able to work in close quarters: i.e., work while kneeling, squatting, sitting, climbing, and standing.
