Job summary

Targa Resources is seeking technicians to operate, troubleshoot and maintain a range of mechanical equipment across plant and field sites in North Dakota. You will perform preventive maintenance, install and repair engines, compressors, pumps and associated systems, while adhering to safety policies and procedures.

Ideal candidates will have at least one year of related work experience, a high school diploma, a valid driver’s license, and strong teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

  • 1 year or more of related work experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean record.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and respond to call outs.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, install, diagnose, troubleshoot, repair and maintain mechanical equipment (engines, compressors, pumps, valves, turbines, heat exchangers, cooling towers, air coolers, filtration, safety devices).
  • Fill out work permits, lockout/tagout docs, and participate in tailgate safety sessions.
  • Follow Targa Safety Policies and Procedures and Business Ethics Policies to work safely.
  • Work with others, understanding impact on co-workers in plant and field operations.
  • Lift and move equipment using hand tools and precision equipment.

Job description

Job Functions and Key Responsibilities
  • Basic knowledge of Natural Gas Characteristics, Engine & Compressor Operations and Maintenance.
  • Responsible for operation, installation, diagnosis, troubleshooting, repair, preventive maintenance and overall proper function of all types of mechanical equipment, including but not limited to: Engines, Compressors, Pumps, Valves, Turbines, Heat exchangers, Cooling towers, air coolers, filtration equipment, pressure relief devices, and other specialty items.
  • Learn to fill out applicable work/hot work permits, lockout/tagout documentation, attend and participate in tailgate sessions with others involved in work site activities.
  • Learn and understand Targa’s Safety Policies and Procedures and Business Ethics Policies. Plan and perform all assignments in a safe manner by utilizing the proper tools, safety and environmental precautions, permitting, and Process Safety Management.
  • Have a basic knowledge of one’s work and how it will affect other co‑workers in the plant and field operations.
  • Must be proficient in the use of tools including hydraulic torque wrenches, laser alignment, dial indicators, micrometers and other precision tools.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Essential Qualifications
  • 1 year or more of related work experience
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record satisfactory to the company.
  • Interpersonal communication skills are required to interface with all affected teams, personnel, and vendors.
  • Strong work ethic with demonstrated ability to effectively work with minimum supervision.
  • Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Office Software.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and respond to call outs as needed to fulfill business objectives and to work shifts for plant or field conditions.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull at least a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in changing climate conditions.
  • Able to work in close quarters: i.e., work while kneeling, squatting, sitting, climbing, and standing.
  • Follow and adhere to all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines such as eye protection, footwear, Nomex.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in maintenance and operations of gas compressors with engine drivers, glycol dehydrators and gas plant processing.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and respond to call outs as needed to fulfill business objectives and work shifts for plant or field conditions.
  • Ability to frequently push, pull and lift at least 50 lbs to a minimum height of 3-4 feet and maneuver equipment or parts as needed throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work outdoors in changing climate conditions.
  • Able to work in close quarters: i.e., work while kneeling, squatting, sitting, climbing, and standing.
  • Ability to climb up and down ladders, stairs, and platforms at varying heights.
  • Follow and adhere to all applicable PPE guidelines such as eye protection, footwear, Nomex.
  • We maintain a drug‑free workplace and perform pre‑employment substance abuse testing.
  • This role is subject to drug and alcohol testing, per applicable federal regulations or as required by Targa policy.
