Job summary

O-I is seeking a Plant Materials Manager for our Lapel, IN plant. The role leads material planning, inventory control, purchasing, warehousing, and distribution, ensuring customer service excellence and on-time production.

Required is a bachelor’s degree in purchasing or supply chain with 2–3 years of materials experience in manufacturing, plus supervisory capabilities. SAP proficiency and MS Office are highly desirable. Salary range and relocation options are offered.

  • 2-3 years of materials experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience in a union environment preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office; SAP experience highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Support inventory tracking (SAP) and monitor inventory levels vs. shipments.
  • Monitor storeroom usage.
  • Oversee budgeting and forecasting.
  • Monitor all plant inventories and purchasing related functions while utilizing a structured cycle count process.
  • Direct the plant production schedule through communication with divisional production planning.
  • Supervise plant warehousing operations including transportation and distribution.
  • Execute MRP and generate materials releases to suppliers.
  • Ensure post goods issues and stock transfer orders are completed within the same business day.
  • Serve as primary plant contact for customer inquiries regarding production schedule, inventory, transportation, orders, and releases.

Job Description

The Plant Materials Manager is responsible for the overall plant materials management. Key elements include planning, integration and execution of the production schedule, inventory control, purchasing, warehousing, distribution, and customer service.

The Plant Materials Manager Will
  • Support inventory tracking (SAP) and monitor inventory levels vs. shipments
  • Monitor storeroom usage
  • Oversee budgeting and forecasting
  • Monitor all plant inventories and purchasing related functions while utilizing a structured cycle count process
  • Direct the plant production schedule through communication with divisional production planning
  • Supervise plant warehousing operations including transportation and distribution
  • Execute MRP and generate materials releases to suppliers
  • Ensure that post goods issues and stock transfer orders are completed within the same business day
  • Perform AQS responsibilities in accordance with AQS manual
  • Serve as primary plant contact for customer inquiries regarding production schedule, inventory, transportation, orders, and releases
The Plant Materials Manager Should Have Experience
  • Leading warehouse practices, including ABC inventory storage methodology and other lean concepts, while ensuring segregation of different material types
  • Using external warehousing and taking a strategic approach to what products are stored in these facilities
  • Preparing monthly and quarterly reports, as well as annual plans and forecasts of plant operations
  • Managing others and executing on training plans
Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree required (purchasing, supply chain, or related field)
  • 2-3 years of relevant materials experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred
  • Previous experience working in a union environment is preferred
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Previous experience with SAP is highly desired

Salary Range: The expected salary range for this position is between $92,000 and $115,000 and includes a possible 12% quarterly incentive bonus. Actual pay will be adjusted based upon candidate experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
