Job summary

EMI Industries, LLC in Cranston, RI seeks a Plant Manager to lead all day-to-day operations of a 120+ employee metal and millwork facility. The role owns safety, quality, delivery, cost, and people performance across all functions, with emphasis on converting drawings to shop plans and driving continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years of progressive manufacturing leadership, experience with engineered-to-order environments, and proficiency in reading technical drawings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Business, or a related field.
• Ten (10) or more years of progressive manufacturing leadership.
• Direct experience leading custom, project-based, engineered-to-order manufacturing operations.
• Reading and interpreting customer drawings, shop drawings, bills of materials, weld symbols, and millwork specifications.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and tactical leadership for all plant operations, including receiving, warehouse and inventory management, metal fabrication, wood millwork, assembly, finishing, shipping, and supply chain.
• Plan and sequence production from backlog and customer promise dates, balancing custom jobs across shared equipment and skilled trades.
• Translate customer drawings, specifications, and engineering packages into shop-ready work; stop work if information is incomplete or unbuildable.
• Foster a culture of safety that meets OSHA and company standards; lead safety walks and incident investigations with root-cause follow-through.
• Address hazards unique to a mixed metal and wood plant; ensure preventative maintenance to support on-time delivery.
• Read and interpret job orders and technical drawings; ensure builds meet drawings and customer specs.
• Partner with Engineering and Sales on design-for-manufacture; support first-article builds and capture actual labor/material for quoting.
• Champion Lean Manufacturing, 5S, PDCA, and root-cause problem solving to improve flow in a high-mix environment.
• Develop and enforce SOPs and standard work; build frontline leadership and a culture of accountability.
• Staff plant with supervisors across production, warehouse, inventory, and shipping/receiving; cross-train as needed.
