Job description

RL Enterprise Recruiting & Staffing is seeking an experienced Plant / Production Manager to lead day-to-day operations at a steel processing facility in Pittsburg, CA. This role is ideal for a hands-on manufacturing leader with a strong background in flat roll carbon steel, slitting, and cut-to-length operations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing production, safety, quality, employees, equipment, and operational performance while ensuring customer requirements and production schedules are consistently met.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee daily plant and production operations for a steel toll-processing facility.
• Manage production activities involving steel slitting and cut-to-length processing.
• Plan and coordinate production schedules to meet customer requirements and delivery commitments.
• Supervise, coach, and develop production and plant personnel.
• Monitor production output, quality, scrap, downtime, and overall operating efficiency.
• Ensure proper setup and operation of slitting lines and cut-to-length equipment.
• Troubleshoot production issues and work with maintenance to minimize equipment downtime.
• Ensure steel is processed according to customer specifications, tolerances, and quality requirements.
• Maintain a strong focus on workplace safety and compliance with company policies and procedures.
• Coordinate material flow, inventory, staging, and finished-product movement throughout the facility.
• Partner with sales, customer service, shipping, maintenance, and other departments to resolve operational issues.
• Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce waste, control costs, and increase throughput.
• Maintain accurate production records and communicate plant performance to leadership.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and implement process improvements.
• Help establish and maintain a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and operational excellence.

Required Qualifications

• Bilingual in English and Spanish highly preferred.
• Proven experience in steel processing, steel manufacturing, or steel service center operations.
• Direct experience with flat roll carbon steel strongly required.
• Hands-on understanding of steel slitting operations.
• Experience with cut-to-length processing and a strong understanding of how steel is processed, measured, cut, and prepared for customers.
• Previous leadership experience supervising production, plant, or manufacturing employees.
• Strong understanding of production scheduling, quality control, safety, and operational efficiency.
• Ability to troubleshoot production and equipment issues and make sound operational decisions.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Comfortable working in a hands-on manufacturing/plant environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing a flat roll carbon steel or steel service center.
• Experience with multiple steel grades, gauges, widths, and customer specifications.
• Familiarity with coil processing equipment and steel material handling.
• Experience with lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, or KPI-driven production environments.
• Experience managing production metrics including throughput, scrap, downtime, labor efficiency, and on-time delivery.
