The Plant Manager is responsible for ensuring a safe work environment while leading efficient, high-quality production operations within the service center. This role focuses on optimizing productivity, meeting customer requirements, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The Plant Manager is accountable for achieving operational objectives, maintaining quality standards, and maximizing profitability through effective leadership, process optimization, and performance management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operational Leadership:
    • Provide strategic direction and leadership to service center to ensure consistent and efficient operations.
    • Develop and implement operational plans, policies, and procedures to optimize production output, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
    • Monitor plant performance metrics, analyze data, and identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth coordination and alignment of operations across sites.
  • Team Management:
    • Lead and manage a team of area managers and staff at the service center.
    • Set performance goals, provide coaching, and foster a positive work environment to motivate and develop associates.
    • Provide regular feedback and implement training programs to enhance team capabilities.
  • Quality and Compliance:
    • Ensure adherence to quality standards, regulatory requirements, and safety protocols across multiple sites.
    • Implement and maintain quality control systems to monitor product quality, identify issues, and drive corrective actions.
    • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to resolve quality or compliance concerns and implement preventive measures.
  • Cost Control and Budgeting:
    • Develop and manage annual budgets for each facility, tracking expenses, and optimizing resource allocation.
    • Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement cost reduction initiatives.
    • Monitor and analyze production costs, labor efficiency, and inventory levels to improve profitability.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Promote a culture of continuous improvement by implementing lean manufacturing principles and methodologies.
    • Lead or facilitate improvement projects, such as process optimization, waste reduction, and efficiency enhancements.
    • Foster a mindset of innovation and encourage employees to contribute ideas for operational enhancements.
  • Stakeholder Management:
    • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, such as senior management, sales, and supply chain teams.
    • Collaborate with customers and suppliers to ensure effective communication, resolve issues, and meet customer requirements.
Education, Training And Experience Requirements
  • 5 years management experience within a fast-paced, high volume manufacturing environment.
  • Steel or manufacturing industry experience.
  • Technologically savvy and experience working with Microsoft Office products and Windows-based applications.

  • Highly articulate verbal and written communication skills, professional appearance and presentation style.
  • Ability to clearly convey information and ideas with all levels of the organization.
  • Creative, innovative and strategic thinker with proven problem resolution skills and process improvement techniques.
  • Highly motivated self-starter, able to prioritize projects, accept responsibility and follow through without close supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively prioritize and balance multiple projects.
  • Sense of urgency and ability to work in a fast paced and high stress environment.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to monitor and evaluate associate performance, establish work priorities, delegate tasks, and train associates in proper policies, procedures and practices.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • 8 years management experience within a fast-paced, high volume manufacturing environment.
Additional
  • Must be able to work outside normal business hours/days as needed.
  • Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time.
