Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years management experience in manufacturing.
  • 10 years corrugated manufacturing experience.
  • Lean Six Sigma and OSHA certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all plant departments through supervisors to ensure safe, efficient daily operations.
  • Direct production, warehousing, maintenance, and quality activities per policies.
  • Ensure production targets, safety, quality, and cost standards are met.
  • Develop plans for material, equipment, labor, and plant capacity utilization.
  • Monitor machine performance and take actions to improve performance.
  • Review costs, quality, labor, and inventory to fix issues.
  • Improve uptime, throughput, and overall plant efficiency.
  • Maintain equipment reliability and preventive maintenance with maintenance leadership.

At Hood Container Corporation, we are searching for a Plant Manager to provide dynamic leadership to our corrugated and converting operations in our Houston, TX plant. The Hood Container Houston plant is one of largest locations and is integral to our integrated model's success! The plant has recently upgraded its onsite corrugator and has multiple converting (Rotary Die and Flexo) assets.

The Plant Manager is responsible for the overall day-to-day leadership and performance of the plant, with primary accountability for safety, quality, production, productivity, cost control, maintenance, and employee performance. The Plant Manager leads department supervisors and/or the Production Manager to ensure the facility operates safely, efficiently, and profitably while meeting established production and operating objectives.

The Plant Manager establishes clear expectations, monitors performance, resolves operating issues, develops employees, and drives continuous improvement throughout the plant.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Leads all plant departments through department supervisors and/or the Production Manager to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable daily operations.
  • Directs and coordinates production, warehousing inventory, maintenance, and quality activities in accordance with company policies and established procedures.
  • Ensures daily production requirements are achieved while maintaining appropriate standards for safety, quality, productivity, waste, and cost.
  • Develops and implements plans for the effective utilization of materials, equipment, labor, and plant capacity.
  • Monitors machine performance, downtime, productivity, waste, labor, and other key operating metrics and takes immediate action when performance is below expectations.
  • Reviews production costs, product quality, labor performance, inventory, and operating results to identify and correct performance issues.
  • Leads efforts to improve machine uptime, throughput, labor productivity, quality, waste, and overall operating efficiency.
  • Works closely with Maintenance leadership to ensure equipment reliability, preventive maintenance, and timely resolution of mechanical and operational issues.
  • Ensures production schedules are effectively executed and operating priorities are clearly communicated to department leaders.
  • Directs preparation and review of production, labor, inventory, and cost records.
  • Reviews plant financial performance and identifies opportunities to improve operating results and control expenses.
  • Recommends operating budgets and capital expenditures to management.
  • Coordinates plant safety, environmental, training, and compliance activities with Human Resources and appropriate plant leaders.
  • Maintains a strong presence on the plant floor and provides hands‑on leadership in resolving day‑to‑day operational issues.
  • Establishes accountability for department performance and ensures corrective actions are implemented and sustained.
  • Develops supervisors and employees through coaching, training, performance management, and regular communication.
  • Assists management with employee relations and, where applicable, negotiation and administration of labor agreements.
  • Maintains compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Leadership Responsibilities

Manages subordinate supervisors and/or the Production Manager responsible for the plant's workforce. Provides overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of plant operations.

Responsibilities include planning and directing work, establishing performance expectations, training and developing employees, appraising performance, recognizing strong performance, administering corrective action, addressing employee concerns, and resolving operational problems in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED plus college and/or appropriate technical courses

Five years experience as a proven manager

Ten years corrugated manufacturing experience
