Job summary

Our client is a leading heat-treat manufacturer seeking a General Manager to own a plant's operations and P&L. You will guide production, safety, and quality while steering growth with business development partners. Strong leadership and financial acumen are essential to drive performance.

You will lead a diverse team across shifts, collaborate with corporate staff, and represent the plant to customers and the community. This role requires strategic thinking and hands-on execution.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent experience in plant operations, management, finance, metallurgy, quality, safety, or environmental management will be considered.
• Thorough knowledge of heat treat processes or a strong manufacturing background.
• 5+ years of business management experience, including 2+ years in a supervisory role.
• Working knowledge of metals, furnaces, and plant equipment capabilities.
• P&L ownership and a strong grasp of financial drivers in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong communication and persuasion skills with all levels, including employees, customers, and vendors.
• Sound judgment, analytical ability, and solid project management skills.
• Proven ability to motivate and lead people and perform well under pressure.
• Comfortable with computers and common business software.

Responsibilities

• Own the plant P&L and deliver against the annual financial plan, including pre-tax profit, equipment utilization, and organic sales growth.
• Manage working capital within the plant budget.
• Lead training, planning, scheduling, and day-to-day direction of production and equipment on all shifts.
• Partner with the plant’s business development manager on sales efforts, quoting, pricing, and market penetration.
• Understand the competitive landscape and position the plant strategically in its market.
• Maintain all required safety certifications and at least one recognized quality accreditation for the facility.
• Champion safety, health, and environmental compliance and keep the facility clean, organized, and well maintained.
• Hire, develop, and retain a productive, quality-oriented workforce through training and mentoring.
• Actively develop a successor and support succession planning.
• Collaborate with sister plants and corporate staff to share best practices.
• Serve as the face of the company to customers, employees, and the local community.
