Job summary

POET in the United States seeks a Plant Engineering Intern to work on-site at Big Stone, SD, supporting the Plant Manager and Maintenance Manager to improve plant efficiency, uptime, and safety during Summer 2027.

You will help troubleshoot, analyze data, and assist in predictive and preventative maintenance programs, while collaborating with vendors and internal teams to strengthen operating procedures and environmental compliance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; junior/senior pursuing a degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Agricultural Engineering.
• Ability to work a variety of shifts, minimum of 40 hours/week.
• Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills; ability to adapt to change; learning new programs.

Responsibilities

• Maximize efficiencies of plant operations and optimize run time.
• Troubleshoot and identify process needs to maintain production levels.
• Assist in the development of predictive and preventative maintenance programs.
• Collaborate with Plant Manager and Maintenance Manager on operation issues and predictive maintenance improvements.
• Work with maintenance and outside vendors to develop the preventative maintenance program.
• Determine applicable equipment, necessary tools, and required inspection frequencies.
• Help strengthen and develop plant operating procedures.
• Maintain confidentiality relating to projects and processes; promote safe behavior and environmental compliance.
• Support teamwork and POET community involvement; contribute to food safety and quality initiatives.
