Job summary

The City of Mesquite is seeking an experienced Plans Examiner to review commercial and residential plans for compliance with City codes. You will assist the public by answering questions at the counter, by phone, and via email, and direct applicants through the plan submission and permitting process.

Responsibilities include coordinating submittals with Planning & Zoning and other departments, logging review comments, and preparing required reports.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in residential or commercial plans examination, building inspections, or permit processing.
• Each thirty hours of college coursework may substitute for one year of experience, up to two years.
• Possession of a valid driver's license and ICC Residential/Commercial Plans Examiner certifications within specified timelines.

Responsibilities

• Review Commercial and Residential plans for compliance with City Code of Ordinances.
• Respond to and direct calls from contractors, developers, property owners and residents.
• Provide information on building codes, plan submittal requirements and permitting process.
• Process applications and permit submittals timely according to rules.
• Coordinate with Planning & Zoning and other departments on plan revisions and approvals.
• Attend meetings and advise on policy and technical matters as required.
