Job summary

The City of Murfreesboro Building Department is seeking a Plans Examiner/Building Inspector to enforce regulatory codes and review construction documents for safety of life and property. You will assess plans for compliance, prepare correction notices, and collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other departments.

The role requires strong communication in English and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced public-services environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or related field preferred.
• Plans Examiner Certification from ICC within one year of employment.
• Five years of experience as contractor, engineer, architect, building inspector, superintendent, or foreman.

Responsibilities

• Review construction plans for multi-family, commercial, and industrial projects for code compliance.
• Examine architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection plans.
• Prepare correction notices and communicate deficiencies to applicants and designers.
• Coordinate with city departments to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Provide consultation to architects and developers on code requirements.
• Use electronic plan review and permitting software to process applications.
• Attend meetings and testify in civil cases when required.
