Job summary

The City of Murfreesboro is seeking a Building Plans Examiner to ensure compliance with adopted codes for multi-family, commercial and industrial projects. You will review architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection plans, issue correction notices, and coordinate with developers, architects, and city staff to uphold safety standards and orderly development.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or 5 years related experience preferred.
• Plans Examiner Certification from ICC within 1 year of employment.
• Five years of experience as contractor, engineer, architect, or building inspector.

Responsibilities

• Review plans for multi-family, commercial, and industrial projects for code compliance.
• Examine architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection plans.
• Prepare written correction notices and communicate deficiencies to applicants and designers.
• Collaborate with city departments and agencies to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Provide consultation on construction projects to architects, engineers, and contractors.
• Use electronic plan review and permitting software and organize plan sets for permits.
