Job summary

City of Glendale, AZ seeks a Plans Examiner to analyze complex construction documents, including structural and hydraulic calculations, ensuring compliance with building, fire, and life safety codes.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's degree in a related field and at least three years in plans review or building/fire inspections, with ICC and IFC certifications to be earned within one year.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree plus three years experience in plans review, building inspection, fire inspections or construction contracting management.
• Ability to advise architects, engineers, contractors, and public on code changes and interpretations.
• Experience interpreting complex construction documents and performing structural calculations.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets building and structural construction documents to ensure code compliance.
• Advises architects, engineers, contractors, and public on code changes and life-safety issues.
• Performs structural engineering calculations for vertical and lateral loads, seismic and stress analysis.
• Identifies plan inadequacies and requires corrections.
• Negotiates code conformance solutions with stakeholders.
• Coordinates with City Fire Department on fire and life-safety issues.

Education

Bachelor's degree in building construction, engineering, architecture, fire science, or related field

ICC certification as a Plans Examiner within one year of appointment

International Fire Code Certification within one year of hire
