Job summary

U.S. Xpress is seeking a Planner, Load to optimize freight assignments for over‑the‑road drivers. You will align loads with driver hours, location, and customer needs, ensuring on‑time delivery and profitable routing.

The role requires 1+ year in Operations (including Load Planning) and familiarity with AS‑400, XPM, and Outlook. This position is on-site at USX HQ with standard M-F hours.

Qualifications

• 1+ year in Operations including Customer Service, Fleet Management, or Load Planning.
• Knowledge of DOT hours of service and how they apply to a driver.
• AS-400, XPM and Microsoft Outlook experience required.

Responsibilities

• Assign freight loads to OTR drivers in the most profitable manner while meeting delivery and pickup times.
• Match freight loads with the optimal driver based on load details, driver hours, and proximity.
• Review and adjust shift plans; monitor AS400 and XPM for new loads and status.
• Coordinate with Fleet Management to resolve driver issues and prevent service failures.
• Communicate load status and changes to Customer Service and planning teams.

PrimaryPosition Purpose:
To assign freight loads to OTR drivers in themanner that optimizes USX profitability and minimizes empty miles whileservicing customer requirements for delivery and pick up times and meeting theneeds of drivers.

PositionFunctions:
Match freightloads with the optimal driver based on review of available loads andavailable drivers
Prioritize loadsby time schedule, special characteristics such as high value product orhazardous materials, and customer priority. Review list of drivers available toaccept each load for proximity to pick up location, available hours underDOT regulations, home time and training requirements, and factorsimpacting driver retention.
Review ratio ofavailable loads to available trucks for assigned region, area or customerand report the load balance to management daily.
Execute shiftplans as directed by management.
Monitor AS400and XPM system for new loads and monitor status of loads assigned todrivers using the AS400 system.
Coordinate withFleet Management to resolve driver issues in route to prevent servicefailure to the customer.
Communicateservice deviations to Customer Service in a timely manner.
Communicatefreight needs and market changes with Customer Service and the PlanningManager.
Unassign loads,reassign loads and locate equipment to prevent service failure or minimizeservice failure impact.
Find equipmentfor drivers that break down
Coordinate withFleet Management on daily availability and PTAs.
Respond toinquiry about load assignments and load status from Customer Service.
Search formissing trailers at customer locations and drop yards using the AS400system.
Repowers per SOP
Bobtail requestsper SOP
Emails per SOP
Monitor trailerpool requirements and yard checks
Be detailed and concise in the duties and expectations of the role
Collaborate in-person with all levels of the organization to harness collective intelligence of the workforce.
Attend all in-person meetings and trainings on recent developments, goals, and objectives. Participate in such discussions by offering input and advice.

Regularly engage remotely and in-person with customers and potential customers to establish rapport, open communication, and expectations.

What We’re Looking For:
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience
1+ year inOperations including Customer Service, Fleet Management, or Load Planningrequired.
Knowledge of DOThours of service and how they apply to a driver.
AS-400, XPM andMicrosoft Outlook Experience required.
