Transmission Work Planner – Contract

We’re looking for a Transmission Work Planner to support construction and maintenance activities for substation assets in the Asheville, NC area. This is a high-impact planning role requiring field knowledge of substations, line work, and relay systems. Candidates must be local or willing to travel regularly to job sites—daily travel of up to an hour is required, with occasional overnight travel (reimbursable).

Responsibilities:

• Develop comprehensive work packages for Transmission Substation crews (scope, estimates, resources, tools, procedures, permits).
• Create accurate construction estimates including labor hours and duration.
• Coordinate with internal teams (Construction, Project Management, Grid Ops) and manage resource alignment.
• Identify and prioritize critical maintenance and capital work.
• Ensure NERC documentation accuracy and timely package completion.
• Travel to sites for walkdowns, scoping meetings, and package audits.

Required:

• Associate’s degree and 5+ years of relevant experience
• (OR High School/GED + 7+ years)
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for daily travel.
• Strong knowledge of substations, relay systems, and transmission line maintenance.
• Comfortable driving up to 300 miles per week (reimbursed mileage).

Preferred:

• 6+ years in field-based T&D planning or electrical construction
• Familiarity with work management tools (MAXIMO, MS Project, P6, SLATE, etc.)
• Excellent communication, coordination, and scheduling skills
• Experience supporting storm response planning is a plus

Schedule:

• 4x10s (Mon–Thurs or Tues–Fri)
• Some overnight travel (5%), and potential support during emergency events
• Reimbursable mileage and overnight expenses
