Job summary

HBK Engineering, LLC, a Chicago-based design firm recently integrated into Quanta Services, seeks a mid-level planning engineer to oversee overhead and underground distribution projects. You will coordinate with permitting, environmental, and client teams, mentor junior staff, and travel up to 30% across service territory.

The role emphasizes quality and timely delivery of complex electrical infrastructure designs.

Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of experience in planning, design, or a related engineering field.
Experience as a P1 (Primary utility contact) is required.
5+ years of experience in Electrical Utility Distribution Design or related fields preferred.
Strong knowledge of GIS, planning databases, and material ordering systems.
Proficiency with AutoCAD, AUD, and/or MicroStation.
Understanding of SOWs and client requirements.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Civil Engineering or equivalent.

Responsibilities

Manage and execute multiple projects in a production environment with emphasis on quality and deadlines.
Design and engineer Lighting, UG, and OH utility systems per standards.
Identify and resolve complex design issues using engineering principles.
Interface with internal teams, external organizations, and agencies throughout planning and design.
Provide mentoring and oversight to junior staff; lead job/site walks.
Lead larger scope projects and drive success within timeframes and budgets.
Develop technical reports, drawings, and calculations.
Participate in field activities and travel up to 30% as needed.
