Job Description

The City of Pearland, TX is seeking a full-time Planner II to lead and improve aspects of the day-to-day operations of our Community Development.

The Planner II earns a competitive salary of $61,000 - $78,000/year, based on qualifications. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term protection, and life insurance, plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. We also offer a retirement plan through the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) with a 2:1 employer match, life insurance, access to the city's recreation fitness center, employee assistance program, educational assistance, 11 paid holidays and 2 designated paid holidays, paid vacation, sick leave, and an active wellness program focusing on physical, mental, and financial health.

A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A PLANNER II

Job Summary

The purpose of this role is to coordinate and ensure code compliance for the creation of City-recognized subdivisions within City limits and the City's Extra Territorial Jurisdiction.

This position works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Essential Functions

  1. Prepares and presents oral and technical reports to elected and appointed City officials.
  2. Compiles and analyzes data to prepare graphic and narrative reports on data.
  3. Confers with local authorities and design professionals to devise and recommend arrangements of land and physical facilities to promote community and economic development.
  4. Processes plat applications and conducts property ownership research; assists customers with platting questions.
  5. Collects statistical data and prepares reports and maps on topics such as land use and tax data.
  6. Performs complex research regarding property ownership, planning, and zoning classifications and variances using mapping software, maps, surveys, and legal descriptions.
  7. Conducts fieldwork such as photographic documentation, windshield surveys, and other planning-related functions.

Requirements

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in regional and city planning or a closely related field.
  • Two years of planning or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

  • Valid Texas Driver's License.
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.
