Job summary

The City of Dallas is seeking an entry-level Planner I to support urban development through planning and zoning tasks, including city-initiated rezonings (authorized hearings). The role requires knowledge of planning principles and the ability to present complex concepts to diverse audiences.

The ideal candidate will assist with hearings, engage stakeholders, prepare reports, and ensure accurate processing of applications, reflecting the city’s commitment to service and community growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Planning, Urban Studies/Design, Architecture, Public Administration, Sociology, Geography, Engineering, or related field.
• Strong understanding of planning principles and zoning concepts.
• Ability to analyze data and present findings clearly.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the main contact at the planning office; explain policies and procedures related to planning applications.
• Compile and analyze planning data; route issues for review and maintain public communications.
• Prepare documents and reports for presentations to staff and public groups.
• Process approvals for applications and intake forms.
• Meet with citizens/business groups to identify problems and goals and explain programs.
