Job summary

The City of Dallas is seeking a Planner I in Planning and Development (Historic Preservation) to perform entry-level professional planning and zoning tasks for the urban development of the City.

Under the direction of the Chief Planner and senior staff, this position supports the Historic Preservation Program, including design review for historic properties and districts, and assists with Certificates of Appropriateness, tax exemptions, and content for the department’s social media sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Planning, Urban Studies/Design, Architecture, Public Administration, Sociology, Geography, Engineering, or related field (e.g., Historic Preservation).
• Basic knowledge of planning principles, methods and techniques.
• Ability to research, analyze data, and communicate results clearly.

Responsibilities

• Serve as main point of contact for visitors to the planning office and explain policies.
• Compile and analyze data to support planning proposals and reports.
• Prepare documents and presentations for staff and public groups.
• Process approvals for applications and intake forms.
• Meet with citizens and interest groups to identify problems and explain programs.
• Perform other duties as needed.
