Job summary

Dallas City Hall is seeking a Planning Technician in the Planning and Development division. Under general direction, you will provide technical customer support and planning assistance to citizens and staff, including drafting graphics and maps for studies.

You will evaluate land use applications, explain procedures and ordinances, prepare memos, and support higher level planners with data from multiple sources. Strong GIS, map-reading, and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3 years of heavy customer service experience and/or experience in plans review, zoning administration, building code issuance or surveying.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate land use applications quickly and accurately per department policies.
• Provide information and guidance on zoning, permits, and procedures to the public.
• Prepare and edit correspondence, memos, and reports; train new staff.
• Assist with maps and graphics for presentations; handle office duties and mail.
