Job summary

City of Dallas is seeking a Planner I to perform entry-level professional planning and zoning tasks for urban development. Under supervision of the Chief Planner, the role supports historic preservation design review, vacant property assessments, and content development for social media.

The position emphasizes data analysis, report preparation, and coordinating with the public and departments to ensure effective services and approvals for planning applications.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in a Planning, Urban Studies/Design, Architecture, Public Administration, Sociology, Geography, Engineering, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Serves as main contact for visitors to the planning office and explains policies; handles planning applications and prepares detailed reports for City Planning Commission.
• Compiles and analyzes data to assist in formulating sound planning and design proposals; reviews case applications and coordinates with other departments.
• Prepares documents for presentation; edits reports and presentations; verifies information with available data sets.
• Processes approvals for applications and intake forms; meets with citizens and business groups to identify problems and goals.
