Purpose
Provide admissions coaching to UT Austin undergraduates interested in attending law school. Help pre-law students explore the legal field. Assist in coordinating our pre-law program, including the annual Law School Fair. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Pre-Law Services.
Note, this is a three-year fixed term position.
Responsibilities
- ADMISSIONS COACHING - Coach pre-law students virtually and in-person, both individually and in group settings, regarding the law school application process, including: decision-making, crafting application materials, selecting schools and law school preparation. Handle a high volume of students efficiently. Provide resources and information to undergraduate students to help them explore the legal field. Critique resumes and personal statements for law school applications. Help pre-law students navigate the law school financial aid process. Refer students to resources related to legal employment statistics. Help students find internships related to the legal field.
- EVENT COORDINATION - Support Assistant Director of Pre-Law Services with planning, coordinating and presenting workshops and programs related to the law school application process to large groups of students. Topics include law school application cycle and components, how to be a competitive applicant, and writing effective personal statements. Assist with coordination of logistics and promotion of our annual Law School Fair.
- ADMINISTRATIVE - Represent Liberal Arts Career Services in on-campus and off-campus meetings and conferences. Assist in creation of marketing and informational materials including handouts, web pages, career guides, and other materials for undergraduate students, alumni, and employers. Enter and maintain electronic coaching notes in database. Support Assistant Director of Pre-Law Services with data tracking and reporting efforts. Develop web and social media content, handouts, infographics and other materials to publicize services and educate students. Maintain the pre-law listserv and post events to listserv regularly. Answer Pre-Law related correspondence and emails from students.
- NETWORKING - Represent the pre-law program in on-campus and off-campus meetings and conferences. Attend professional development webinars and conferences to stay up to date on current law school admissions processes and network with law school admissions representatives and pre-law advisors.
- CAREER SERVICES - Support and collaborate with Liberal Arts Career Services team at events, including all fairs. Attend and participate in staff meetings and professional development meetings weekly.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in career services, or a human resources role performing a variety of recruiting or career placement activities. Experience with the law school application process. Exceptional resume writing, editing and job search skills. Demonstrated project management abilities, interpersonal skills, professional demeanor and excellence in oral and written communication. Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Comfortable presenting to large groups.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree or a JD. Demonstrated experience working in higher education career services, admissions coaching or the legal field. Experience critiquing resumes and admissions essays. Familiarity with UT departments and processes. Proficiency in data management and reporting. Experience with cloud -based software, including Handshake, Symplicity, 12Twenty, and/or Canvas.
Salary Range
$60,000+ depending on qualifications

Employment Eligibility:
Regular staff who have been employed in their current position for the last six continuous months are eligible for openings being recruited for through University-Wide or Open Recruiting, to include both promotional opportunities and lateral transfers. Retirement Plan Eligibility:
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
