Role Summary

The Organ Placement Coordinator (OPC) - Night Shift is responsible for maximizing the utilization of abdominal and research organs from local donors, import offers, and accepted import organs. OPCs are accountable for activities related to the allocation and utilization of organs from local donors. This includes receiving, inputting, and evaluating all new organ-related referrals (phone and electronic), abdominal organ allocation for transplant and research, coordinating operating room timing, logistics, communication, and documentation.

Shift Details

Night Shift: 12.5-hour shifts from 7:30 PM to 8:00 AM, three days a week.

Responsibilities

• Maintain in-depth knowledge of the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) policies and guide the team to ensure compliance.
• Serve as the primary source of donor information throughout the allocation and procurement process to transplant centers, UNOS staff, and LiveOnNY coordinators.
• Provide critical thinking and decision-making regarding allocation strategies to prevent organ loss, in accordance with laws, policies, and regulations.
• Assist the Donor Center with incoming calls and entering referrals from hospital partners and donor families.
• Communicate pertinent donor information to transplant programs to ensure patient safety and maximize organ utilization.
• Arrange transportation for recovery teams, including ground and air, and develop strategies to minimize organ ischemia time.
• Coordinate import kidney and pancreas allocation per policies, organ offers, and transportation of blood, tissue typing materials, and biopsies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a health-related field required.
• Or an Associate’s degree with one to three years of related experience.
• Excellent communication, computer, and organizational skills required.
