Job summary

Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation is seeking a Foundation Intern. This in-person, paid internship offers hands-on experience across nonprofit programming, fundraising, marketing, and community engagement.

You’ll support events, assist with social media, and help manage charitable operations while working closely with the Foundation team. The role requires a minimum of two years of college and availability 15–30 hours weekly, including Penguins home games.

Location: Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation, One Chatham Center, Suite 300, Pittsburgh, PA 15219 and PPG Paints Arena, 1001 Fifth Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15219

Status: Paid Internship, Part-Time, In-Person

Schedule: Flexible scheduling within 15-30 hours per week, including availability during Pittsburgh Penguins home games and select community and charitable events.

Compensation: $10/hour

Overview

The Foundation Intern will assist the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation with the growth of its mission and pillars — youth hockey, wellness, education, and community. This internship provides hands‑on experience in nonprofit programming, fundraising, marketing, community outreach, and charitable operations. The intern will work closely with the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation team and will gain experience in program and event support, social media and digital communications, fundraising initiatives, charitable donation fulfillment, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Programs & Events

• Support Foundation programs and events tied to youth hockey, wellness, education, and community.
• Assist with the coordination of team/alumni special events and game‑day promotions.
• Assist in community outreach during Penguins home games and select community and charitable events.
• Demonstrate creativity in support of fundraising initiatives such as Foundation Auctions and Sweepstakes, as well as special events.

Marketing & Communications

• Manage aspects of the Foundation’s social media presence, website updates, and e‑marketing outreach with creativity.
• Assist with drafting social media posts and content creation on Foundation social media platforms.
• Assist in the collaboration and design of marketing materials and fundraising tools.
• Create, edit, and proofread official documents and internal/external communications.

Charitable Operations & Community Relations

• Organize and fulfill charitable donation requests.
• Manage the authentication process of autographed and player‑used memorabilia.
• Foster the Foundation’s relationship with the public by providing exceptional customer service.
• Research NHL and local charitable projects to outline growth opportunities for the Foundation.

Administrative & CRM Support

• Update the Foundation’s CRM system on an as‑needed basis.
• Assist with various Foundation administrative and operational needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Applicants should have completed at least two years of college or demonstrate equivalent education, training, or relevant experience in a related field.
• Ability to work in person in Pittsburgh and at PPG Paints Arena as needed.
• Availability to work 15 hours per week in the office, with total weekly hours typically ranging from 15-30 hours based on the schedule of Pittsburgh Penguins home games and select community and charitable events. Additional event availability will vary from week to week.
• Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and maintain a flexible schedule.

Preferred Skills

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and internet navigation and research capabilities.
• Familiarity with social media platforms, including Facebook, X, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
• Familiarity with basic content creation tools.
• Interest in nonprofit organizations, community engagement, fundraising, or charitable work.
• Desire to assist the community and impact youth.

Penguins Internship Program Information

Application Review: Applicants will be reviewed on a rolling basis and reached out with initial communication by Friday, October 30th, at the latest.

Anticipated Internship Term: January 11th, 2027 - April 16th, 2027

Course Credit: Students remain eligible for earning course credits for their internship and will be responsible for ensuring that the internship meets the criteria of their program and/or university.
