Job Details: Job Location: Columbus, OH 43213, Salary Range: $22.00 - $22.00 Hourly, Basic Function

The Case Manager provides services that assist refugees in adjusting to life in the United States by helping the refugee or client meet immediate needs upon arrival and by preparing and implementing a resettlement plan in accordance with timelines and requirements of ETSS, Global Refuge, and/or other funding sources.

Responsibilities

• Serve as an advocate and resource for clients
• Assist with preparation for arrival of refugees, including assuring that housing is available and determining whether special medical attention will be required
• Greet refugees at airport and transports them to residences.
• Provides orientation for clients as soon as possible following arrival in accordance with program and contractual guidelines.
• Assist with development of self-sufficiency plan in cooperation with ETSS staff with the goal of assisting clients in reaching self-sufficiency within established time periods.
• Assist clients in applying for eligible public benefits, medical assistance, food stamps, cash assistance, enrollment of children in school, obtaining Social Security cards, and other services needed.
• Ensure that refugees receive initial health screening and medical care if needed.
• Assist clients in obtaining medical coverage through available programs and assists with scheduling medical and dental appointments.
• Arranges for transportation for clients to appointments when appropriate.
• Obtain the services of an interpreter whenever necessary to ensure culturally and linguistically appropriate delivery of services.
• Monitor client progress through telephone or personal contacts throughout the period of service.
• Maintain client case notes of all contacts with the client and documents all client services in a timely and accurate manner.
• Provide data required for various reports, submits all required reports in a timely and accurate manner.
• Serve as a liaison with the local community regarding refugee resettlement program questions and assist both the community and the clients to understand each other.
• Assist clients in obtaining and retaining employment. Identify barriers to employment.
• Coordinate services with other key staff to assure comprehensive services for the refugee.
• Attend and participate in staff meetings.
• Participate in community outreach activities that advance the work and message of ETSS and Global Refuge.
• Complies with all federal, state and Global Refuge Service Contracts
• Demonstrate an organized and proactive approach to services to clients, program reporting and communication to all agency staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills/Performance Requirements

• Commitment to the human rights and general welfare of parolees, asylum seekers, refugees, and immigrants.
• Must be capable of working in a fast-paced, multicultural office environment, take initiative, and be able to handle and prioritize multiple assignments at once.
• Valid driver’s license and access to own transportation required. Must be willing to transport clients in your vehicle.
• Must have ability to work some late nights and weekends.
• Must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail including comprehensive case noting.
• Language capacity in common refugee language(s), preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Negotiation and conflict management skills.
• General knowledge of refugee resettlement practices in the U.S., preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications.

Qualifications: Education

Minimum of bachelor’s degree in social work or related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience.

Experience

Minimum of three years of experience working in a nonprofit or social services environment, preferred. Minimum of three years of case management experience. Extensive experience, ability and desire to work with people of other cultures. Also, experience working with refugees in the resettlement process is preferred. Must have experience working on various computer and web applications.
