Job summary

Matrix Service is seeking a Piping Superintendent to plan the works and supervise foremen and craft employees responsible for layout, fabrication, installation, testing and re-instating piping for process and utility systems.

The role requires travel to project sites with per diem provided, and involves coordinating safety, scheduling, materials, and interfacing with engineering, estimating and planning to keep work on schedule.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years' experience in similar facility, including construction technology, methods, equipment, tools, and work procedures; 1+ years' experience supervising craft employees.
  • 4-year engineering degree or equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
  • Advanced understanding of construction scheduling and cost control.
  • Ability to supervise large groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize performance.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; good computer skills including MS Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and supervises work activities. Determines method of construction, safety procedures and requirements, manpower levels, material quantities, equipment, temporary power sources, work schedule and documents actual hours worked.
  • Coordinates assigned work with different crafts, company departments and/or subcontractors.
  • Maintains liaison with safety department, engineering, estimating and planning to ensure work complies with safety policies, drawings, specifications and schedules.
  • Assists in resolving construction problems and safety issues, as required.
  • Conducts accident investigations with safety department, as required.
  • Maintains communication with the HR Department to resolve issues of requisitioning required manpower.
  • Monitors craft compliance with project safety program requirements. Documents and ensures corrective measures are implemented.
  • Maintains liaison with other departments to ensure all required materials, equipment, inspections, etc., support craft activities and project schedule.
  • Conducts field safety audits, as required and maintains a complete understanding of Corporate Safety Manual and requirements.
  • Performs additional responsibilities, as directed.

Job Summary

The Piping Superintendent is responsible for planning the works and daily supervision of subordinate foremen and craft employees tasked with layout, fabricate, assemble, installation, testing and re-instating piping including pipe supports and fixtures for process and utility systems.

Travel Requirements: Must be willing and able to travel to assigned project site locations as required. Per diem will be provided for eligible travel assignments in accordance with company policy.

Essential Functions

Physical Requirements
  • Work includes field inspections and audits and the physical ability to conduct these field duties which require the following activities:
    • Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project via turnstile access.
    • Extensive walking in and around a construction site.
    • Tasks at heights including climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, and working on uneven surfaces.
    • Ability to work in small or confined spaces.
    • Ability to push, pull, lift, or carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
    • Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. fall protection harness, hard hat, etc.).
    • Ability to be fit tested for and use a respirator.
    • Ability to perform work outside, which may include exposure to all types of weather conditions
