Job summary

Matrix Service Company in Washington state seeks a Piping Superintendent to plan and supervise piping activities for process and utility systems, including layout, fabrication, installation, testing and reinstatement of piping and supports.

You will lead foremen and craft teams, ensuring safety compliance and coordinating with engineering, estimating and planning to meet schedules and budgets. Strong communication and leadership are essential.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years' experience in similar facility, including construction technology, methods, equipment, and work procedures.
  • 1+ years' experience supervising craft employees.
  • Advanced understanding of construction scheduling and cost control.
  • Ability to supervise large groups.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; MS Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and supervise work activities; determine construction method, safety procedures, manpower, material quantities, equipment, schedules and hours.
  • Coordinate assigned work with different crafts, departments and/or subcontractors.
  • Maintain liaison with safety, engineering, estimating and planning to ensure compliance with policies, drawings, specs and schedules.
  • Assist in resolving construction problems and safety issues; conduct accident investigations with safety department as required.
  • Maintain communication with HR to resolve manpower requisitioning; monitor safety program compliance and document corrective actions.
  • Liaise with materials control, purchasing, quality control and engineering to ensure materials and inspections support craft activities and schedule.
  • Conduct field safety audits and understand Corporate Safety Manual requirements.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as directed.

Job Summary

The Piping Superintendent is responsible for planning the works and daily supervision of subordinate foremen and craft employees tasked with layout, fabricate, assemble, installation, testing and re-instating piping including pipe supports and fixtures for process and utility systems.

Essential Functions
  • Actively supports the Company's commitment to safety and its "Core Values."
  • Represents the Company at all times with high moral standards while adhering to the Company's "Code of Business Conduct and Ethics."
  • Plans and supervises work activities. Determines method of construction, safety procedures and requirements, manpower levels, material quantities, equipment, temporary power sources, work schedule and documents actual hours worked.
  • Coordinates assigned work with different crafts, company departments and/or subcontractors.
  • Maintains liaison with safety department, engineering, estimating and planning to ensure work complies with safety policies, drawings, specifications and schedules.
  • Assists in resolving construction problems and safety issues, as required.
  • Conducts accident investigations with safety department, as required.
  • Maintains communication with the HR Department to resolve issues of requisitioning required manpower.
  • Monitors craft compliance with project safety program requirements. Documents and ensures corrective measures are implemented.
  • Maintains liaison with other departments (Material Control, Purchasing, Quality Control, and Engineering) to ensure all required materials, equipment, inspections, etc., support craft activities and project schedule.
  • Conducts field safety audits, as required and maintains a complete understanding of Corporate Safety Manual and requirements.
  • Performs additional responsibilities, as directed.
Qualifications
  • 6+ years' experience in similar facility, including construction technology, methods, equipment, tools, and work procedures; 1+ years' experience supervising craft employees.
  • 4-year engineering degree or equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
  • Advanced understanding of construction scheduling and cost control.
  • Ability to supervise large groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize performance.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; good computer skills including MS Word and Excel.
Physical Requirements
  • Work includes field inspections and audits and the physical ability to conduct these field duties which require the following activities:
    • Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project via turnstile access.
    • Extensive walking in and around a construction site.
    • Tasks at heights including climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, and working on uneven surfaces.
    • Ability to work in small or confined spaces.
    • Ability to push, pull, lift, or carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
    • Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. fall protection harness, hard hat, etc.).
    • Ability to be fit tested for and use a respirator.
    • Ability to perform work outside, which may include exposure to all types of weather conditions

The pay rate will depend on the successful candidate's qualifications and prior experience, specific skill set, geographic location, internal equity, and other factors influencing pay. As such, an actual salary may fall closer to one or the other end of this range, and in certain circumstances, may fall outside the listed hiring range.

Hiring range: $60.00-70.00 hour

Full range for this position, available over time: $60.00-70.00 hour
