Position Overview

We are an innovative team of engineers and designers supporting diverse projects in the power market. Power generation involves extensive piping, and if you have 3+ years in piping design and are interested in a variety of projects, working in our Lenexa, Kansas division, we would love to connect with you. Our current projects are numerous, with a strong backlog, and we seek designers eager to learn and grow in the Power Generation field. Your role will involve developing detailed piping, mechanical equipment, and system designs, layouts, and 3D models for power generation, including experience outside power (e.g., carbon capture, water/wastewater, chemical, oil and gas, or related industrial facilities). You may design steam cycle systems, boiler feed and condensate systems, water treatment, fuel handling, hydraulic, heat transfer, conveying, or air and gas systems.

District Overview

Our Power district encompasses structural, civil, piping, mechanical, process, safety, electrical, instrumentation, and control disciplines. We focus on EPC delivery for power facilities, providing engineering services like owner's engineering, project development, detailed design, construction management, and plant services across North America in areas such as gas-fired generation, power delivery, environmental retrofits, renewables, carbon capture, water/wastewater, and more.

Location

This position is based full-time in Lenexa, Kansas, with relocation assistance available.

Responsibilities
  • Draft sketches, P&IDs, plans, sections, details, equipment layouts, and 3D models for power plant systems, including steam cycles, water treatment, fuel handling, hydraulics, heat transfer, conveying, rotating equipment, and balance of plant systems. Designs must include equipment layout and ensure interference-free, constructible solutions.
  • Verify design deliverables comply with industry codes, standards, contracts, and company policies.
  • Follow schedules and work assignments to ensure project success.
  • Coordinate with team members, support work progress, and provide training to interns or new graduates.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, applying standards accurately.
  • Seek and utilize feedback, work efficiently individually and as part of a team.
  • Identify scope changes during projects and adjust designs to stay within budget and schedule.
  • Exceed quality and outcome expectations of customers.
  • Complete miscellaneous tasks supporting project development and participate in meetings as required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in design/drafting, with a background in piping/mechanical systems in a 3D environment; power generation experience preferred.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting/Design or Engineering preferred; high school diploma or GED required.
  • Proficiency with 3D software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, SmartPlant3D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, or similar, including interference checking and constructability analysis.
  • Experience conceptualizing designs/models in 2D/3D for mechanical systems; power market experience (thermal, hydroelectric, wind/solar, geothermal) highly desired, but candidates with strong mechanical skills in other industrial markets will be considered. Experience creating P&ID's, plot plans, and construction drawings is essential.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team and independently with limited oversight.
