Position Overview

We are an innovative team of engineers and designers supporting diverse projects in the power market. As a Mechanical Designer, you will develop detailed piping, mechanical equipment, and systems designs, layouts, and 3D models for power plants, carbon capture facilities, and related projects. Your responsibilities may include designing steam cycle systems, boiler feed and condensate systems, water treatment, fuel handling, hydraulic, heat transfer, conveying, or air and gas systems.

District Overview

Our Power district includes disciplines such as structural, civil, piping, mechanical, electrical, and control engineering, focusing on EPC delivery for power facilities across North America. Our services include owner's engineering, project development, detailed design, construction management, and plant services, supporting projects in gas-fired generation, power delivery, environmental retrofits, renewables, and water/wastewater sectors.

Location

This position is based in Lenexa, Kansas, with relocation assistance available.

Responsibilities
  • Draft sketches, P&ID diagrams, plans, sections, details, equipment layouts, and 3D models for power plant systems, including steam cycles, water treatment, fuel handling, hydraulic, heat transfer, conveying, and rotating equipment systems.
  • Ensure design compliance with industry codes, standards, and company requirements.
  • Adhere to project schedules and work assignments.
  • Coordinate with team members and support project progress.
  • Mentor interns and new graduates.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, applying standards correctly.
  • Incorporate feedback and work efficiently as part of a team.
  • Manage scope changes during projects to stay within budget and schedule.
  • Strive to meet or exceed quality and customer expectations.
  • Support project development with miscellaneous tasks.
  • Participate in project meetings as required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in design/drafting, with a background in piping or mechanical systems in a 3D environment; power generation experience preferred.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting/Design or Engineering preferred; high school diploma or GED required.
  • Proficiency with 3D programs such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, SmartPlant3D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Autodesk, Open Plant, or similar.
  • Experience conceptualizing mechanical designs/models in 2D/3D, designing piping and equipment layouts for power generation or similar industries.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team in a dynamic environment.
