Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Atlanta seeks a Staff Pipeline Engineer to join project teams delivering world-class designs for transmission and distribution pipelines. You will design concepts, review drawings, and support field data collection across projects.

The role requires ABET-accredited engineering degrees with 3+ years of pipeline experience, strong CAD skills (AutoCAD, MicroStation, ATF), and excellent communication. Travel ~10% and a collaborative environment are offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering with 3 years of pipeline experience; consulting preferred.
• ABET-accredited program with FE exam and 3 years pipeline experience; consulting preferred.
• Master's in Mechanical or Civil Engineering with 2 years pipeline experience; consulting preferred.
• Strong knowledge of standard pipeline engineering techniques and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically with strong critical thinking.
• Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite).
• Strong computer skills (AutoCAD, MicroStation, ATF).
• Attention to detail, facilitation, teamwork, organization, and problem-solving.
• Engineers in Training (EIT) Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform pipeline design from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Modify and review production drawings for transmission and distribution pipelines.
• Design pipeline components per project manager requirements.
• Apply knowledge of pipeline engineering concepts, codes, and practices.
• Research and compile project data; write specifications and assess feasibility.
• Update CAD drawings and verify corrections across CAD software.
• Prepare client presentations, shop drawings, and contract administration for pipeline projects.
• Conduct field inspections, measurements, or calculations for clients.
• Comply with all policies and standards.
