Job summary

Garney Construction in Virginia is hiring a Pipelayer to install and repair underground pipe systems for water, sewer, and storm drain projects. You will prepare the job area, assist operators, and ensure proper trenching and alignment.

Candidates should have two years of large-diameter pipe experience and be willing to complete Garney certifications (Rigging, Signaling, Confined Space, OSHA 10) and to travel and work overtime.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the area for trenching and grading.
• Assist equipment operators in placing pipe.
• Direct equipment operators with hand signals.
• Backfill around pipe with hand tools.
• Set up pipe lasers and transits.
• Locate and mark pipe positions in trenches.
• Assemble and install valves, fittings and pipe.
• Join pipes with screws, bolts, solder, and solvent cement.
• Test pipes for leaks and measure/cut pipe.
• Promote Garney goals and philosophies.

Job description

A Pipelayer job is available at Garney. To be considered for this position you must have previous experience with pipe laying. As a Pipelayer, you will assemble, install and repair underground pipes and fittings. This includes, but not limited to, metallic and plastic pipe, ductile iron pipe, steel pipe and concrete pipe for water, sewer and drain work.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

• Prepare the area in which pipe will lay by directing trenching and grading
• Perform functions of a Laborer as required
• Assist equipment Operators in the placement of pipe
• Direct equipment Operators with hand signals
• Backfill around pipe using hand tools
• Set-up and work with pipe lasers and transits
• Locate and mark the correct position of pipe and fittings in an underground trench
• Assemble and install valves, fitting and pipe composed of metal, PVC, ductile and concrete
• Joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, and plastic solvent cement
• Test pipes for leakage. Measures and cuts pipe
• Promote Garney Goals and Philosophies
