Job summary

Shirley Contracting Company, LLC is seeking skilled laborers for year-round pipe installation and maintenance across multiple Virginia job sites. You will work on waterlines, sanitary and storm sewers, reading plans and grade sheets, and coordinating with equipment operators in outdoor environments.

Role requires passing a pre-employment physical and drug screening, with overtime, nights and weekends possible. Competitive benefits accompany base pay and opportunities to train others.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year experience on a utility crew.
• Working knowledge of shoring and excavation.
• Ability to read cut/grade sheets.
• Outdoor work in all seasons.
• Comfort working with heavy equipment and ability to communicate with operators, workers and pedestrians.
• Must pass pre-employment physical/drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Install and repair of waterlines and sewers (sanitary and storm).
• Align and position pipes for joining.
• Connect pipe pieces and seal joints.
• Install and use lasers, grade rods and transit levels.
• Check slopes for conformance using levels or lasers.
• Assist with covering pipes with earth or other materials.
• Cut pipes to required lengths.
• Dig trenches to required depths by hand or with trenching tools.
• Grade and level trench bases with tamping machines and hand tools.
• Work in confined/enclosed spaces.
• Willing to train others in pipe-laying and provide supervision.
• Ensure health and safety policies are met.
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with customers and co-workers.

Job Type: Full-Time, Year-Round

Location: Various Jobsites

Working Hours: Typical start time varies between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM. Overtime, nights and weekends may be required.

Applicants must be 18 years of age and currently authorized to work in the US on a full-time basis in order to be considered.

For this role the base hourly range is $20.00-$30.00 per hour. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. Base pay is one part of the Total Compensation Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work.
