Job summary

Shirley Contracting Company, LLC in Virginia seeks a field technician to install and repair waterlines, sanitary and storm sewers across multiple job sites. You will read cut/grade sheets, align pipes and work with heavy equipment, all outdoors year-round.

This full-time, year-round role requires at least one year on a utility crew, pre-employment drug screen, and strong safety discipline. Typical hours start between 6:00 and 7:00 AM with overtime, nights, and weekends possible; competitive

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year experience on a utility crew.
• Working knowledge of shoring and excavation.
• Ability to read cut/grade sheets.
• Work in outdoor environments in all seasons.
• Be comfortable working alongside heavy equipment and able to communicate with operators, workers and pedestrians.
• Must pass pre-employment physical/drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Install and repair of waterline, sanitary sewer and storm sewer.
• Align and position pipes to prepare them for joining.
• Connect pipe pieces and seal joints.
• Install and use instruments such as lasers, grade rods, and transit levels.
• Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers.
• Assist with covering of pipes with earth or other materials.
• Cut pipes to required lengths.
• Dig trenches to required depths, by hand or using trenching tools.
• Grade and level trench bases, using tamping machines and hand tools.
• Work in confined and enclosed spaces.
• Will training others in pipe-laying and provide supervision.
• Ensure the company’s health and safety culture, policies and requirements are met.
• Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with customers and co-workers

Applicants must be 18 years of age and currently authorized to work in the US on a full-time basis in order to be considered.

For this role the base hourly range is $20.00-$30.00 per hour. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. Base pay is one part of the Total Compensation Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work.
