Job description

Amentum

is currently seeking a Pipefitter to support our contract in Washington, D.C. You will maintain and repair steam lines, fittings, connections, etc., in low- and high-pressure steam systems, in addition to performing plumbing trades functions.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Install and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes. Study building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations.
2. Inspect structures to identify obstructions that could weaken the structure during pipe installation. Locate and mark the position of pipes, pipe connections, and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors.
3. Cut openings in walls and floors for pipes and fittings using hand tools and power tools. Cut and thread pipes using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe-threading machine. Bend pipes to required angles using pipe-bending machines or by hand over a block.
4. Assemble and install valves, pipe fittings, and pipes made of metals such as iron, steel, brass, and lead, as well as nonmetals like glass, vitrified clay, and plastic.
5. Join pipes using screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulking. Fill pipe systems with water or air and check for leaks using pressure gauges. Install and repair plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposals, dishwashers, and water softeners.
6. Repair and maintain plumbing by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mending burst pipes, and unclogging drains. May weld fixtures to steel structural members.
7. Perform other responsibilities related to this position as appropriate.

Experience and Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Education or training that ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
3. Minimum of five years of plumbing experience.
4. Ability to lift 45 lbs.
5. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) preferred.
