As a Plumber Pipefitter, you will inspect, repair, and maintain the Airports Authority's plumbing and utility distribution systems.

Position: Plumber Pipefitter Terminal Services

This is the journey (full performance) level job in the Plumber Pipefitter series.

Serves in the Terminal Services Division of the Engineering and Maintenance Department at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).

Inspects, maintains, repairs, installs, and modifies plumbing and distribution piping systems, including fire suppression, domestic water, natural gas, storm water, sanitary sewage systems, industrial waste, compressed air, steam, High Temp Hot Water, Hot Water, and Chilled Water systems. Performs related functions.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Installs pipes, plumbing, and related equipment.
  • Makes emergency repairs on utility service lines; may design/fabricate parts for older equipment.
  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on industrial waste, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, domestic water, HVAC mechanical piping systems, and fire protection systems, including testing, repairs, and overhauls.
  • Performs utility line verification using blueprints and locator equipment.
  • Reports repairs, completes work orders, and updates maintenance records.
  • Helps collect water samples in compliance with EPA and state regulations.
  • Performs utility outages to ensure safety.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Four years of responsible experience in plumbing and pipefitting maintenance and repair, or
  • Journey License as a Plumber Pipefitter or Natural Gas Fitter, plus one year of specialized experience in installation, testing, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of plumbing and piping systems.

Knowledge of building and plumbing codes, ability to interpret blueprints, and skill in installing and operating various valves, regulators, and devices.

Ability to work safely, communicate effectively, and use computer systems for work orders and records.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Journey or Master Plumber, Pipefitter, or Natural Gas Fitter license.
  • Certification as Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT) from the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR).

EDUCATION

High school diploma or GED.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED

State driver's license in good standing.

NECESSARY SPECIAL FACTORS

  • Operate vehicle airside and landside with AOA permit.
  • Work in cramped positions, lift objects up to 50 pounds, and be exposed to various environmental hazards.
  • Subject to 24-hour recall for emergencies.
  • Work shifts, nights, or weekends as needed.

Work is reviewed during and after completion for quality and timeliness.
