Job summary

San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) seeks a skilled Pipe Welder for the Millbrae Yard to support the Wholesale Meter Testing & Cross Connection Control Improvement Program. You will operate welding equipment, lay out pipe, and perform repairs on pipelines, valves and related facilities.

The role requires handling high‑pressure systems and standard safety practices. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with potential for emergency repairs nights, weekends, and

Qualifications

• Five years of welding experience using oxyacetylene and electric arc methods, including one year on high‑pressure pipelines.
• Possession of a Class C Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Operate welding and metalworking machinery to repair and maintain pipelines, pumping stations and water treatment equipment.
• Lay out pipe and construct pipe specials, such as offsets, bends, sleeves and meters.
• Perform repairs using electric arc welding, acetylene welding, brazing or silver soldering on valves and related equipment.
• Cut, fit and weld pipes; repair leaks and create templates as needed.
• Manufacture emergency repair items and create metal fittings for field use.
