Job summary

City and County of San Francisco seeks a skilled Pipe Welder to support the Wholesale Meter Testing & Cross Connection Control Improvement Program. Under supervision, you will weld, lay out pipe, and repair pipelines across multiple facilities, including pressure vessels.

The role requires handling high‑pressure systems and working in challenging environments. Five years of welding experience with oxy‑acetylene and electric arc methods is required, including at least one year on high‑pressure

Qualifications

• Five (5) years experience as a welder using oxyacetylene and electric arc welding methods, including one (1) year on high pressure pipelines.
• Substitution: one year of trade school or union welding program may substitute for one year of experience.

Responsibilities

• Operates welding and metalworking machinery for repair and maintenance of pipelines, pumping stations and water treatment equipment.
• Lays out pipe and constructs pipe specials such as offsets, bends, sleeves, and meters.
• Performs repairs using electric arc welding, acetylene welding, brazing or silver soldering on valves and equipment.
• Performs cuts, fits and welds pipes; repairs leaks and makes templates.
• Manufactures emergency repair items such as leak bands and tapping tees.
• Constructs and maintains special truck bodies as needed.
