Job summary

The City of Valparaiso, Northwest Indiana, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Pipe Mechanic Level 1 to perform installation, maintenance and repair on the distribution and collections infrastructure system.

The role reports to the VCU Field Services Director, requires a high school diploma or GED, the ability to obtain a Class B CDL within one year, and an 18+ age minimum. On-call rotation begins after one year, with comprehensive benefits and competitive pay.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; experience in maintenance work is a plus.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Class B CDL within one year of hire.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Ability to meet all employer and department hiring requirements, including drug test and screening.

Responsibilities

• Cleans debris off tops of intakes and cleans areas after storms.
• Installs, builds or repairs manholes, intakes, sewer and water lines, streets and curbs.
• Operates light equipment, mowers, trucks, hand and power tools, and safety devices.
• Performs preventive maintenance inspections and locates infrastructure for Call Before You Dig.
• Completes daily work logs with hours and materials used.
• Follows safety procedures and participates in on-call rotation after one year.
• Attends training programs and safety sessions.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
