Job summary

HEI Civil in Waco, TX is seeking an entry-level Pipe Layer Helper to support the installation of sanitary and storm sewer and water lines. You will work alongside experienced crew members on underground utility projects in a heavy civil construction environment.

This role offers on-the-job training, a chance to grow skills in piping installation, and exposure to field operations in diverse weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Entry-level position with on-the-job training provided.
• OSHA 10 certification preferred but not required.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist Pipe Layer and crew with installation of underground utility systems.
• Help prepare work areas and pipe routes using project plans and supervisor direction.
• Load, unload, move, and organize pipe, fittings, and construction materials.
• Assist with assembling, installing, and repairing underground piping and related components.
• Help position and align pipe during installation.
• Support grade and elevation checks using levels, lasers, and other measuring tools.
• Assist with connecting pipe sections and preparing joints for installation.
• Measure and prepare pipe and materials for placement.
• Help prepare trenches, grade bedding materials, and assist with backfilling activities.
• Perform general labor duties to support daily construction operations.
• Work collaboratively with Pipe Layers, Foremen, Superintendents, and other crew members.
• Follow company procedures and project requirements while maintaining an organized work area.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a team.

• Interest in learning underground utility installation and heavy civil construction practices.

• Basic knowledge of construction tools and equipment is helpful but not required.

• Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

• Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting materials, bending, kneeling, and working on uneven terrain.

• Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn new skills.

• OSHA 10 certification is preferred but not required.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED preferred.

• Previous construction, landscaping, utility, or general labor experience is a plus but not required.

• This is an entry-level position with on-the-job training provided for qualified candidates.
