Pay Range: Pay: $30-38 per hour based on education and experience

Job Function:

Under general supervision of the Fitness and Wellness Coordinator, the Reformer Pilates Instructor is responsible for the preparation and planning of fitness classes. They will instruct various levels and types of group fitness classes and provide information relevant to proper use of equipment, class structure, and guest wellness.
Instructors are compensated at 1.25 times their hourly rate. This includes payment for an additional 15 minutes beyond the scheduled class time to allow for guest check-in, room setup, and end-of-class wrap-up

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Instruct and lead private, semi-private, and group fitness classes under the direction and guidance of the Fitness and Wellness Coordinator.Maintain interest and participation in district recreation, fitness, and wellness programs by conducting classes that are fun, safe and innovative.
  • Recruit participation by educating our prospective and current guests about classes and upcoming events.
  • Work closely with the Fitness and Wellness Coordinator to introduce new and exciting class options to our participants.
  • Maintain accurate records of class attendance and assist in managing program registration.
  • Maintain applicable education and certifications. Certifications must be renewed prior to expiration dates.
  • Dress in a professional and family friendly manner.
  • Utilize skills, abilities, and knowledge of kinesiology and physiology to instruct participants with respect to various diversities, ages, and fitness level abilities.
  • Enforce facility and class policies and procedures.
  • Communicate openly and effectively with supervisors, co-workers, staff, participants, parent, volunteers, and other community members.
  • Provide excellent guest service, including interacting with participants to answer questions and resolve problems.
  • Find an appropriate substitute for classes upon absence.
  • Help clean, maintain, and organize all fitness and audio equipment.
  • Report any issues or concerns to the Fitness and Wellness Coordinator.
  • Identify and/or recommend maintenance, improvement, or repair of facility equipment, property, and operational procedures to ensure safety, efficiency, and fiscal responsibility.
  • Take proper safety precautions, anticipate unsafe circumstances, and act accordingly to help prevent accidents.
  • Perform additional assigned duties as required.
Physical Demands, Job Location, and Equipment Utilization:
  • The noise level in the environment is moderate to loud.
  • May require indoor and outdoor activities and exposure to the elements.
  • Travel by automobile may be required to attend professional meetings and workshops or to reach a recreation activity site located away from the Hyland Hills Fitness Center.
  • This position requires high levels of physical ability including standing, walking, talking, lifting, bending, reaching, jumping, stretching, etc.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision.
  • Work with various fitness equipment such as reformers, weights, bands, fitness balls, mats, etc.
  • Able to carry up to 50lbs.
Required Qualifications:
  • Candidates must be over 21 and pass a background check before employment.
  • Must be CPR/AED and First Aid Certified within 60 days of hire.
  • Have and maintain a Pilates certification through Club Pilates, Peak Pilates, or similar certification through an accredited organization with a minimum of 200 hours (500hr preferred).
  • Preferred minimum of one year of experience teaching Mat and Reformer Pilates
  • Must be available to work weekdays, nights, weekends, and holidays.
