Job summary

Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston seeks a Registered Nurse for the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit on Main Campus. You will provide direct care to critically ill children in a fast-paced, family-centered environment, focusing on safety and comfort for both patients and families.

The PICU is organized into 4 cohorts to optimize outcomes, with responsibilities spanning assessment, care planning, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Associate degree in nursing; current enrollment in nursing bridge program and signed agreement
• Texas RN license or Nurse Licensure Compact and BLS certification required
• 9 months of professional nursing experience
• Demonstrate positive interpersonal skills, time/resource management, flexibility, and communication
• Knowledge of nursing process, critical thinking, PALS, ACLS and collaboration with care team
• Respiratory fit testing required as part of safety standards

Responsibilities

• Assess patient/family biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, culture, spiritual and environments needs.
• Analyze situations, anticipate problems, and detect changes in status.
• Update plan of care and communicate changes to care team.
• Participate in rounds and care conferences and document in medical record.
• Assist patients/family in implementing their role in the plan of care.
• Assess learning needs and readiness to learn; tailor education accordingly.
• Administer and document medications and treatments timely.
• Show willingness to acquire new knowledge and skills to improve performance.
• Participate in unit performance improvement initiatives.
