Summary

• Eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program.

• Must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment.

• Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review.

• Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Basic Requirements

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine from an VA‑approved school.
• Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a US state, territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
• Residency training: Physicians must have completed an accredited core specialty training program approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, or meet one of the alternative residency requirements outlined in the announcement.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Urology.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Physical Requirements: Must meet the physical standards for the position including a prior physical examination, random drug testing, and the ability to lift 15–44 pounds, push, reach above shoulder level, use fingers and both hands, stand and walk for 3–5 hours, and coordinate rapid mental and muscular activity.

Additional Requirements

• Additional Professional Experience: Physicians currently enrolled in accredited residency training may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) under specific conditions.
• Board certification requirements may be waived in rare circumstances upon physician’s composite record of experience, accomplishments, performance, and qualifications.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Urologist duties include diagnosing, treating, and performing surgeries for conditions of the genitourinary tract and male reproductive organs.
• Perform physical examinations, diagnose and treat disorders, order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests, and use specialized equipment such as X‑rays, fluoroscopes, endoscopes, and catheters.
• Conduct abdominal, pelvic, or retroperitoneal surgeries (open, endourology, laparoscopic, robotic) when necessary.
• Prescribe and administer medications for urinary tract infections, erectile dysfunction, infertility, and ejaculation problems.
• Provide outpatient and hospital consultations, supervise direct patient care, and manage follow‑up care.
• Teach residents and fellows, conduct medical research, and participate in hospital meetings and initiatives.
• Maintain CME units and historical records of patient care.
• Participate in on‑call schedules in a timely manner, ensuring availability for emergent patients.
