Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

• United States Citizenship – non‑citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited in accordance with VA policy.
• Education – Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a VA‑approved medical school.
• License – Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
• Residency Training – Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program.
• Board certification may be required for faculty status under VA academic training programs.
• Residency Training Options:
• ACGME or AOA accredited program leading to board certification.
• One year of post‑medical school training (internship, first year of residency, or transitional year) approved by ACGME or AOA followed by two years of independent practice in the U.S.
• Non‑U.S. residency programs followed by a minimum of three years of independent practice in the U.S. with duties related to the position.
• Exceptional cases may be considered by the Facility Director with VISN Director approval.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Preferred Experience – Board Certified by the American Board of Urology.
• Physical Requirements – lifting up to 35 pounds intermittently; moderate carrying (15–35 pounds) intermittently; assistive device lifting for >35 pounds per Safe Patient Handling Policy; pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulders, walking, standing, kneeling, and repeated bending intermittently.

Duties

• Provide comprehensive care of ambulatory patients in the outpatient Urology clinic.
• Manage new patient consultations, diagnosis, and treatment of urinary tract and male reproductive system disorders.
• Participate in the operating room according to technical abilities, performing pre‑operative and post‑operative evaluations.
• Engage in a team approach to ensure appropriate patient assessments, anticipate care needs, prevent avoidable complications, and achieve optimal patient conditions.
• Adhere to surgical and ethical care standards.
• Maintain accurate and timely charting and documentation of patient assessment and care plans.
• Participate in committees as requested.
• Work Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center.
