Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Recruitment or Relocation Incentive may be offered to highly qualified – eligible applicants.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physicians in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine.
• Degree must be from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs in the year of completion.
• Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.
• Residency Training: Physicians must have completed an accredited core specialty training program approved for board certification. Approved residencies include those accredited by ACGME or AOA, one year of post‑medical school training followed by two years of independent practice, or non‑US residency programs with at least three years of verified independent practice in the U.S. (United States fellowships count toward this).
• Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs who meet basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) with specific licensing and scope of practice limitations.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Preferred Experience: Expertise in Endourology with an emphasis on benign prostatic hyperplasia.
• Experience with minimally invasive and robotic surgery is highly desirable.

Duties

• Academic oriented staff urologist with expertise in Endourology, focusing on evaluation and management of benign prostatic hyperplasia.
• Strong academic record with teaching, research activity, and peer‑reviewed publications in Urology.
• Prior leadership experience is beneficial and considered favorably.
• Primary focus on Endourology with opportunities to expand into additional subspecialties, including minimally invasive and robotic surgery, and pathways for leadership growth.
• General urology coverage and call participation to ensure broad clinical exposure.
• Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage patients with a full range of urologic conditions—both benign and malignant.
• Perform minimally invasive, laparoscopic, and robotic surgical procedures.
• Provide outpatient and inpatient urologic consultations and follow‑up care.
• Teach and supervise residents, fellows, and trainees.
• Participate in research and academic activities.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated, high‑quality Veteran care.
