Job summary

Meadowview Ohio Valley Heart, part of Lifepoint Health, is seeking a Physician Services Clerk to deliver high-quality customer service for patients and perform essential front-office tasks. The role supports the Office Manager, manages patient data, and coordinates with the care team to maintain smooth operations.

You will handle appointment scheduling, insurance verification, and patient communications while contributing to patient satisfaction improvements and referrals when needed.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
• Strong oral and written communication skills for front-office tasks.
• Experience with computers and medical terminology is preferred.
• Excellent customer service and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality customer service to patients and support Office Manager.
• Perform front-office duties in a courteous manner and assist patients and families.
• Process demographic information and update the practice management system.
• Assist with billing, eligibility verification and insurance authorizations.
• Coordinate EMR/medical record activities and appointment scheduling.
• Support patient satisfaction initiatives and refer patients to team members as needed.

What We're Looking For

The Physician Services Clerk provides quality customer service to patients and performs those functions delegated and assigned by the Office Manager.

How You'll Contribute

• Carry out front office activities in a kind and courteous manner and is helpful to customers and their families
• Notify office manager of customer complaints in a timely manner
• Gather appropriate demographic information on each customer and updates the practice management system
• Notify customers of long waits and offers alternatives
• Ensure effective telephone communication and documents messages
• Coordinate all EMR/medical record activities
• Collect and post payments and ensures safety and security of all monies Schedules patients and coordinates appointment scheduler activities to facilitate efficient patient flow
• Perform insurance eligibility verification and obtains prior authorization as needed
• Research patient ledger in effort to educate patient on balances due and collect payment for services rendered
• Perform appointment confirmation telephone calls
• Complete required in-services
• Participate in the development and implementation of patient satisfaction improvements
• Make referrals to other medical care team members when needed

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required, Associate's degree or high preferred.
• Knowledge and experience with computers, coding, and medical terminology preferred
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, problem-solve, and handle stress in a positive manner
