Job description

Summary

Education and length of practice are considered through a formal pay-setting process to determine the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay). The Richmond's Fredericksburg Healthcare Center (FHCC) is projected to open in March 2025. Those hired for these positions will be required to work at the Richmond VA Medical Center or one of the other CBOCs (management determination based on need) until the FHCC opens.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
  • Residency training: Completion of an approved residency program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible for appointment as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements: Ability to perform all activities of the position without restrictions.
Duties
  • Participate in performance improvement and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and consultation to staff.
  • Supervise and teach house staff and trainees.
  • Serve as a consultant and assist in treatment plan implementation.
  • Complete clinical charting and documentation timely.
  • Plan and oversee personal research programs.
  • Clinical responsibilities include assessment, evaluation, therapeutic interventions, diagnostic testing, and treatment management in ophthalmology.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and participate in treatment planning.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, ensuring compliance with policies and standards.
  • Perform other duties as required, including participating in VA's total rewards program, which includes competitive salary, paid time off, retirement options, insurance, licensure, CME reimbursement, malpractice coverage, and work schedule from 08:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
