Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing requirements may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until requirements are fulfilled. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements are deemed to have met the basic qualifications.

Basic Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens only when recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible.
• Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree from an approved medical school.
• Current, full, and unrestricted medical or surgical license in the U.S.
• Completion of residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA-accredited programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
• Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
• Board certification in Internal Medicine or Internal Medicine Pediatrics.
• At least 5 years of practice post-residency.
• Physical standards for the position must be met, including a pre-placement physical exam and compliance with drug testing policies.

Duties

Seeking an enthusiastic internist with a passion for medical education for a full-time Medical Director position at our Jamaica Plain location in Boston, MA. This role involves approximately 51% clinical time, managing a large primary care practice with 6,000 patients and a team of 10 physicians, with access to multiple specialties and services.

Responsibilities include:

• Providing oversight of practice management, clinical performance, and provider supervision.
• Offering longitudinal care to a diverse patient panel.
• Developing educational initiatives and precepting trainees.
• Implementing quality improvement projects.

Preferred candidates will have experience in medical education, population management, evidence-based guidelines, and adult learning principles. The role includes teaching opportunities at Harvard Medical School or Boston University. The practice emphasizes team-based care, evidence-based medicine, and a culture of continuous improvement.
