Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens only when recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible
  • Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
  • Current unrestricted medical or surgical license in the U.S.
  • Completion of approved residency training leading to eligibility for board certification
  • Enrolled residents in approved programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and are not considered independent practitioners
  • Proficiency in English
  • Preferred: Board certification, experience in primary care, ambulatory clinic management, population management, evidence-based guidelines, and adult learning principles
  • Physical, cognitive, and emotional fitness as per VA standards; ability to interact professionally with patients and staff; capable of handling workload and stress

  • Manage a panel of about 1250 patients, with appointment lengths of 60 minutes for new patients and 30 minutes for others
  • Utilize telehealth options; work with a team including nurses, associates, and schedulers
  • Develop educational initiatives, implement quality improvement, and provide general and gender-specific care
  • Engage in teaching opportunities with medical students and residents; academic appointment at Harvard Medical School or Boston University School of Medicine
  • Work schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30AM-4:00PM
