Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amounts (up to $200,000), and eligibility periods (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements for appointment under the previous standard at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved medical school.
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
- Residency Training: Completion of residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program, leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Duties
- Provide specialty consultation for inpatients and outpatients, serve on committees, participate in quality assurance programs, and assist in meeting performance measures.
- Specialize in Benign and Malignant Disorders of the Hematologic System and Malignant Solid Tumors.
- Provide clinical care, including diagnosis, staging, therapy, and follow-up.
- Teach and supervise medical students and physicians-in-training, qualifying for academic appointment.
- Responsibilities include outpatient clinics, inpatient supervision, outpatient chemotherapy, and infusion procedures.
- Perform procedures such as Thoracentesis, Paracentesis, Lumbar Puncture, and Bone Marrow Aspiration and Biopsy.
- Conduct histories, physical exams, assessments, diagnostics, and therapy, consulting guidelines and other physicians as appropriate.
- Collaborate with other specialties and team members, ensuring timely, courteous service to Veterans.
- Supervise physicians-in-training and medical students to prevent adverse events and implement corrective actions as needed.
