Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) — a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements for initial appointment under the previous standard are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Residency Training: Completion of an approved residency training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed physicians and only appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Preferred Experience: Board Certified/Board Eligible.
  • Physical Requirements: As per VA Handbook 5019/1.
Duties
  • Provide specialty consultation for inpatients and outpatients; serve on committees; participate in quality assurance programs.
  • Work schedule: Full-time, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.
  • Eligible for recruitment incentives such as sign-on bonus and student loan repayment.
  • Participate in the VHA Physician Total Rewards program.
  • Supervise and provide care for patients with benign and malignant hematologic and solid tumors.
  • Engage in teaching and supervision of medical students and residents.
  • Perform procedures such as thoracentesis, paracentesis, lumbar puncture, and bone marrow biopsy.
  • Consult, assess, and develop treatment plans using guidelines and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Ensure timely and respectful service to Veterans.
